Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says the East Coast Rail Link will strengthen Malaysia’s position as a regional connectivity and logistics hub in Southeast Asia.

KUALA LUMPUR: The East Coast Rail Link project is a strategic national initiative expected to strengthen Malaysia’s position as a regional connectivity and logistics hub in Southeast Asia.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the project is also a symbol of close cooperation between Malaysia and China.

He made the remarks after receiving a courtesy call from a delegation from China Communications Construction Co. Ltd., led by its chairman Song Hailiang.

The CCCC is the main contractor responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of the ECRL.

Anwar said the meeting focused on CCCC’s support for government policies aligned with the 13th Malaysia Plan.

Discussions also covered the project’s current progress and the importance of completing it on schedule to deliver economic benefits.

“I also stressed the importance of thorough preparations by all stakeholders for the ECRL’s operational phase,” he added.
