EDOTCO Malaysia has introduced a new benchmark for rural connectivity with the successful deployment of Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) with mobile-to-WiFi connectivity in Uma Lesong, Sarawak, showcasing a scalable solution for underserved and geographically challenging communities.

EDOTCO BWA deployment East Malaysia May 2026 1Designed to address geographical challenges that limit mobile coverage in East Malaysia, the solution demonstrates how connectivity can be extended to remote areas previously considered difficult to reach.

Developed with Sarawak-based partner Kejuruteraan Rasshin and supported by VSD Communications and Aminia, the solution was first piloted in August 2025 and has since provided consistent broadband access for the local community. The deployment was also tested with both low-orbit satellite and fibre backhaul, highlighting its adaptability across different rural environments and infrastructure conditions.

The solution also supports seamless mobile-to-WiFi connectivity to help extend 4G and 5G access beyond conventional tower coverage, allowing mobile network operators to improve rural connectivity more efficiently without depending entirely on new tower construction.
