Officials from the District Education Office conduct a surprise inspection at a private school on Thursday.

Taking action on continuous complaints received about several private schools in Amritsar district regarding violations of government orders on the sale of books, uniforms, and the RTE Act, a district-level team led by Kanwaljit Singh Sandhu, District Education Officer, Amritsar, conducted a surprise inspection of private schools. The team assessed the uniforms, books, and admissions, as well as the monthly fees being paid by students across these private schools, to check for any violations.

The DEO said that in the past, many parents and social service organisations had brought complaints to the District Education Office regarding the unregulated increase in monthly fees and the alleged coercion of parents to buy uniforms and books from specific vendors.

“In this regard, during today’s inspection of Navjot Senior Secondary School, Navjot Model School, Narayana Public School, Blue Valley School, Mirankot, and other private schools located on Batala Road, the school management was asked to provide information regarding the uniforms prescribed for students, the list of shops issued for the convenience of students for the purchase of books, as well as the admission and monthly fees of the schools,” he said.

Apart from this, the team also inspected a temporary stall set up for selling uniforms, school bags, and other items to students of a private school at a private palace located on Court Road. DEO Sandhu instructed private school administrators to ensure compliance with the orders issued from time to time by the Punjab Education Department in the interest of students.

A district-level WhatsApp number, 797369605, has been issued for students studying in private schools to register any kind of complaint, on which students and parents can submit their grievances.
