As CEO of Sejahtera Leadership Initiative (SLI) & Global Sejahtera, I have twice (2017 & 2020) visited the Sejahtera Centre which is part of the United Nations (UN) Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE), an Asia-Pacific hub for ESD located in Tongyeong, South Korea, focusing on sustainable lifestyles, cultural well-being and balanced co-existence. In 2015, Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dzulkifli Abdul Razak, SLI Founding Convenor graced the opening of RCE Sejahtera Center and Forest in Tongyeong, as a learning space and hosts various ESD programs, residency programs for researchers & students and events to promote sustainability and global partnerships, aligning with the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) ESD 2030. With the South Korean graciously adopted the philosophy and concept of Sejahtera a new milestone was achieved and given its vision of “co-existence” that aligned with “collaborative relationship" plus a US$20 million funding to develop a purpose built 200,000 square meter eco-park from the Ministry of Environment, and Municipality of Tongyeong, collectively known as the Sejahtera Forest & Center. In addition, it is linked with all 25 RCEs in the Asia-Pacific region, gradually Sejahtera mooted in Malaysia & South Korea is conveying the important message of co-existence to a growing number of people.

I am amazed that Tongyeong Sejahtera Center has provided people of all ages across the region and world with various opportunity to gain an intensive understanding of ESD for decent work and social entrepreneurship. By fostering lifelong learning for managers, the center is creating a learning culture that can co-exist with expanding educational system. The training course also includes opportunities for retirees to continue their development programs.

Evidently, Korean businesses operate across various sectors in Malaysia, like the green technology, digital technology & ICT, the food and beverage (F&B) and constructions. Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and the Korean Chamber of Commerce Malaysia (KOCHAM) involve in various platforms and initiatives to strengthen economic cooperation and capitalize on future growth engines, particularly in areas like eco-friendly environment.
