Eight temporary relief centres for Kampung Bahagia fire evacuees in Sandakan closed today after a disaster meeting agreement.

SANDAKAN: Eight temporary relief centres housing evacuees from the Kampung Bahagia fire here were closed today.

District disaster management committee chairman Datuk Walter Kenson said the decision was made following an agreement reached during the fire disaster special meeting held yesterday.

“The closure effective 1 pm today involve the centres at Taman Batu Sapi People’s Housing Project Hall, Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Gas, Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Bahagia, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Batu Sapi, Dewan Serbaguna Sibuga, Dewan Serbaguna Warga Tua and Sim-Sim Futsal Court,” he said in a statement today.

He also conveyed his appreciation to all parties for their cooperation and commitment throughout the centres’ operations.

Thousands of residents were affected by a fire that destroyed about 1,000 stilt houses in Kampung Bahagia on April 19.
