Eight-year-old killed in three-vehicle crash on Jalan Cheras

SHAH ALAM, June 4 - An eight-year-old girl was killed after the motorcycle she was riding on with her parents was involved in a three-vehicle collision on Jalan Cheras heading towards Jalan Loke Yew yesterday morning.

In the incident, which occurred at about 8.18 am, the victim suffered severe head and body injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said initial investigations found that the SYM Husky 150 SE motorcycle carrying the victim had allegedly lost control while filtering through heavy traffic, reported Berita Harian.

“The motorcycle is believed to have been filtering between the left and right lanes before colliding with the rear of a Honda CR-V travelling in the right lane.

“As a result of the collision, a Yamaha Y15ZR motorcycle travelling behind was unable to avoid the motorcycle and crashed into it, causing both motorcycles to fall,” he said in a statement today.

He said the 35-year-old motorcycle rider sustained injuries to his waist and both legs, while his wife, who is also 35, suffered injuries to her right hand.

Both are receiving treatment at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM).

Meanwhile, the 59-year-old Honda CR-V driver was uninjured, while the 47-year-old Yamaha Y15ZR rider sustained minor injuries to his left knee.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Members of the public with information or who witnessed the incident are urged to contact the Tun HS Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-2071 9999 or any nearby police station to assist investigations.
