Are you a Malaysian working in Singapore but driving a Malaysia-registered car? If you’ve felt left out of the national fuel subsidy conversation because you hold a Singaporean driving licence, there is great news for you!
The Ministry of Transport (MOT), in collaboration with the Road Transport Department (JPJ), has officially opened up applications for the BUDI95 fuel subsidy specifically for this group of Malaysians.
What are the Requirements?
To qualify for this targeted subsidy, you don't just need to be "working across the causeway." You must meet these specific criteria:
- Nationality: You must be a valid Malaysian citizen.
- Licence: You must hold a valid Singaporean Driving Licence (LMS).
- Employment: You must possess a valid work permit to work in Singapore.
- Vehicle: The subsidy is strictly for vehicles registered in Malaysia. If you are driving a Singapore-plated car, this does not apply to you.
How to Apply?
The government has streamlined the process to make it as "frictionless" as possible. Here is the step-by-step:
- Visit the Portal: Head over to the designated JPJ special website - BUDI95 Lesen SG (launched specifically for this initiative).
- Submit Documentation: You will likely need to upload copies of your MyKad, Singaporean licence, and work permit.
- The Wait: Once submitted, your application is forwarded to the Ministry of Finance (MOF) for a thorough review.
- Check Status: You can return to the same platform to check your eligibility status 14 days after your submission.
What if You’ve Moved Back?
Transport Minister Anthony Loke clarified a common concern for those returning home for good. If you no longer work in Singapore:
- You must first cancel your Singaporean driving licence.
- You can then reapply for a Malaysian driving licence (LMM).
Once your Malaysian licence is active, you can apply for the subsidy through the standard national channels, BUDI95 portal.
Why this matters: This move ensures that thousands of Malaysians who commute daily or weekly between the two countries are not unfairly burdened by fuel costs, acknowledging their unique status as Malaysian vehicle owners who happen to hold foreign driving credentials for work.
Keep your documents ready and head over to the portal today to ensure you don't miss out on your fair share of the national fuel subsidy!
