The newly opened East Klang Valley Expressway (EKVE) will be toll-free for one month, from 30 August until 29 September 2025. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the exemption on 29 August during the official launch of Section 1, which runs from the Sungai Long Interchange to the Ampang Interchange, saying the move was introduced in conjunction with the National Day celebrations.
The toll-free period begins at 6.00 a.m. on 30 August and ends at 11.59 p.m. on 29 September.
Details of EKVE Section 1
Section 1 of the EKVE is a dual carriageway with two lanes in each direction. It features four grade-separated interchanges at Sungai Long, Bandar Mahkota Cheras, Hulu Langat, and Ampang. The stretch also includes four toll plazas and two lay-bys.
The completed segment covers 16.8 kilometres of the main carriageway and 8.4 kilometres of connecting roads that link the four interchanges.
Reducing congestion and travel time
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, who also attended the launch, said Section 1 of the EKVE will connect major suburban areas without requiring commuters to travel into Kuala Lumpur city centre. He added that the new route is expected to cut travel time between Ampang and Kajang to around 20 minutes.

Section 1 forms part of the Kuala Lumpur Outer Ring Road (KLORR) on the eastern corridor of the Klang Valley. The alignment has been designed as an alternative route connecting Sungai Long, Bandar Mahkota Cheras, Hulu Langat, and Ampang.
Nanta highlighted that the EKVE is one of Malaysia’s key infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening the road network across the Klang Valley.
Next phase of construction
Section 2 of the EKVE, which will extend the route to Ukay Perdana, is currently under development. Once completed, the entire EKVE will span 39 kilometres, completing the alignment as outlined in the original development blueprint.
