Kota Kinabalu: A 72-year-old man claimed trial at the High Court here on Monday for murdering his former fiancée, whose dismembered body parts were discovered in a rubbish bin at Taman Indah Permai in Sepanggar.

Piluta Samad pleaded not guilty before Judicial Commissioner Dayang Ellyn Narisa Abang Ahmad to killing Hamidah Husin @ Lisa, between 6pm and 7pm on Feb 11, at a house in Kampung Sri Kenangan along Jalan Sepanggar.

The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code provides for the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years, and not less than 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.

Judicial Commissioner Dayang Ellyn set Oct 19 for pre-trial case management after the prosecution confirmed that all related documents were ready.

Piluta, who was certified fit to stand trial following psychiatric evaluation at Hospital Mesra Bukit Padang, was ordered to be remanded further as the offence provides no bail.
