AN elderly man known as “Ayang” has pleaded not guilty to five charges relating to improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during proceedings held at Tuanku Jaafar Hospital on Friday.
Yeoh Hock Sun, 63, entered his plea from a hospital bed before Judge Datin Surita Budin after the charges were read to him.
The hearing, which commenced at approximately 9.50 a.m., was briefly adjourned for 20 minutes when Yeoh reported sudden shortness of breath.
Medical personnel provided immediate treatment, and the session resumed at 10.15 a.m. once he was confirmed to be stable.
Media representatives were not permitted inside the courtroom and remained outside the hospital entrance.
According to the charges, Yeoh is accused of committing mischief by using explosives that caused damage to a Mitsubishi L200 Triton owned by a 47-year-old man on 22 December 2025 at around 5.55 a.m., in the parking area of Block A, Pangsapuri Desa Palma, Nilai.
He faces prosecution under Section 435 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of 14 years’ imprisonment and a fine if convicted.
In addition, Yeoh faces three separate charges of possessing explosives under circumstances that suggested an intention to cause injury.
These offences allegedly took place on the same day between 12.30 p.m. and 7.30 p.m., at a unit in Pangsapuri Desa Palma, inside a Proton Wira vehicle parked in the Star Valley area of Nilai, and at the roadside of Kampung Batang Benar, Mantin, Nilai.
He is charged under Section 3 of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Weapons Act 1958, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years’ imprisonment and whipping.
Yeoh is also charged under Section 4 of the same Act for the unlawful use of an IED with the intent to cause injury, an offence punishable by up to three years’ imprisonment and whipping.
No bail was granted, and the court set 12 February as the date for the next mention of the case. The prosecution is being led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Norazihah Asmuni.
Police previously reported discovering suspected IEDs following an explosion in the Desa Palma area after receiving public reports of a blast and nails scattered across the site at 7.08 a.m. - January 9, 2025
