Elderly man dies from self-inflicted gunshot while scaring off thieves

AN elderly man tragically died yesterday evening, believed to have accidentally shot himself at his durian farm in Kuala Klawang. The 67-year-old victim reportedly sustained a fatal chest wound while attempting to deter thieves who had trespassed onto his property.

The incident unfolded when the man, who had gone to his farm around 5pm, failed to return home by 9pm, raising concerns for his wife. A source close to the family stated, "Usually, if he wasn't home by 7pm, his wife would call.

But when she returned home at 9pm and he wasn't there, she became worried." She then alerted her brother-in-law, who went to the farm to search for the victim.

The source further revealed that the man was discovered lying lifeless on the ground with a gunshot wound to his chest. The victim's brother has since filed a police report regarding the death.

Jelebu District Police Chief, Superintendent Azizan Said, confirmed that investigations are ongoing and advised the public against engaging in speculation. - July 17, 2025
