A 62-YEAR-OLD man was found dead with stab wounds in the living room of his apartment in Bandar Permaisuri, Cheras, in the early hours of Saturday morning, with police confirming his son as the main suspect.
Cheras Deputy District Police Chief, Superintendent Ridzuan Khalid, said officers received a report regarding the incident at 3.01am.
"The victim was discovered lying on his back in the living room with stab injuries," he said in a statement.
Initial investigations led to the arrest of the victim’s 24-year-old son, who is now in police custody.
"Further investigations are underway to determine the motive behind the incident," Ridzuan said, adding that the suspect has been remanded for seven days from 13 to 19 September.
Members of the public with information related to the case are urged to contact the Cheras Police Hotline at 03-9284 5050/5051, the Kuala Lumpur Police Hotline at 03-2115 9999, or report to the nearest police station.
In a new development, a long-standing family dispute over inheritance is believed to have triggered a fatal stabbing involving a senior citizen and his son at their home.
Ridzuan confirmed that initial investigations point to dissatisfaction over family property as the motive behind the attack.
"Preliminary findings suggest that the suspect, who is unemployed, acted out of frustration regarding an inheritance issue and proceeded to stab the victim," he said in a statement.
He added that the victim sustained severe injuries to the face and head during the assault.
The incident was reported to police at 3.01am on Saturday. Upon arrival, officers found the elderly man lying motionless in the living room with visible stab wounds. His body was later transferred to the Forensic Unit of Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM) Cheras for a post-mortem examination.
The suspect, the victim’s 24-year-old son, was apprehended shortly after and has been remanded for seven days to assist investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. - September 13, 2025
