KENINGAU: An elderly man, 60-year-old Fredoline Yariki, was found dead yesterday, while his 7-year-old grandson remains missing near Sungai Pagalan, Taman Bersatu, Sook.

Fredoline and his grandson were last seen around 9:35 a.m. on Tuesday when they went to the river to test a boat but did not return. Their absence prompted a search and rescue (SAR) operation.

Keningau Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Severinus @ Mohd Nidzam Sainkui, said an emergency call was received, and a team of nine personnel was deployed.

“The team arrived at 6.20pm, gathered information, and started SAR operations along the riverbanks with assistance from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM),” he added.

During the search, the victims’ belongings, including a personal bag, a boat with its engine, and a container of fuel, were found on a rock.

The SAR operation is ongoing, focusing on the riverbanks. Authorities will provide updates as the search continues.
