Elderly man found safe after going missing in Membakut forest

MEMBAKUT: A 77-year-old man, Banggul@Maicheal Dumat, who was reported missing after venturing into the forest to collect bamboo shoots on Friday afternoon, has been found safe.

Membakut Fire Station Chief, Ishak Jabas, confirmed that the man returned home on his own at 6.20 am on Saturday after following a stream path out of the forest. He was in good health.

The fire department received an emergency call at 7.48 pm Friday, prompting a search and rescue (SAR) operation within a 100-metre radius from where he was last seen, approximately 10 kilometers from the station.

The search was suspended at 9.50 pm and was scheduled to resume the next morning.
