Kota Kinabalu: A 72-year-old man was sentenced by the Sessions Court here to a total of 14 years’ imprisonment and two strokes of the cane for sexually abusing two minors.
Ahmad Matali pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan to two charges under the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
He was sentenced to seven years’ jail and one stroke of the cane for kissing a nine-year-old girl on the mouth for a sexual purpose by the roadside of a village in Papar at the end of June 2025.
For the second charge, he received another seven years’ jail and one stroke of the cane for committing a similar act against a seven-year-old girl at about 6.30pm on Oct 5, 2025 in a house in Papar.
The court ordered the sentences to run consecutively from the date of arrest, and further ordered him to undergo counselling, followed by two years’ police supervision after completing the jail term.
