PETALING JAYA: A senior citizen was sentenced to 12 months in prison by the magistrates’ court here today after she pleaded guilty to splashing acid on a 37-year-old man earlier this month.
Saira Abdullah, 62, claimed to have splashed acid on Inam Ullah after she was unable to tolerate his continual harassment, Sinar Harian reported.
Magistrate Chai Guan Hock ordered Saira to be imprisoned from the date of her arrest on July 9.
Saira was accused of intentionally causing injury to Inam by pouring chemical liquid on him in the elevator of Laksamana Jaya Apartments at Kampung Laksamana, Batu Caves, on July 4.

The magistrate released Saira on bail of RM4,000 and set the next case mention for Sept 12.
In mitigation, Saira’s lawyer, Izleen Ismail, appealed for a lighter sentence on the grounds that Saira was suffering from severe depression.
“Furthermore, Inam’s provocation, in wanting to befriend my client, caused her to become irrational and take action,” Izleen was quoted as saying.
Deputy public prosecutor Wan Nur Iman Wan Ahmad Afzal requested the court to consider the seriousness of the offence.
“We need to take into account the injuries suffered by the victim,” Wan Nur Iman said.
