IPOH, Dec 11 — The Election Court dismissed a petition today to annul the victory of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate for the Gombak Setia state seat in the Selangor State Election on August 12.

Ipoh High Court Judge Datuk Abdul Wahab Mohamed, who sat as the Election Court Judge, made the decision.

The petition was filed by voter Mohd Shaffie Omar to challenge the seat’s results based on claims that voters had been bribed by the respondent — PN candidate Muhamad Hilman Idham — during the polls.

Lawyer Mohd Radzlan Jalaluddin, representing Hilman, when contacted by Bernama, confirmed the matter and said the petition was dismissed with costs of RM25,000.

Lawyer Datuk Mohd Hafarizam Harun represented the petitioner.

In the Selangor state polls, Hilman, who obtained 30,299 votes, won the Gombak Setia seat, defeating Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin (30,241 votes), and Independent candidate Mohamed Salim Mohamed Ali (1,076 votes).
