PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob reportedly has been issued with an ultimatum demanding him to hold the general election as soon as possible or be sacked from Umno, Malaysiakini reports.
An Umno and government source told the portal that this was made clear to the prime minister during Wednesday’s Umno political bureau meeting.
The source said the meeting was tense, and some of those present raised their voices at Ismail Sabri, who is the Umno vice-president, on several matters, including Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak’s incarceration.
However, the source declined to reveal Ismail Sabri’s response to the demand during the meeting, which was chaired by Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
On Tuesday, Najib was sent to Kajang prison after the Apex Court upheld the 12 years’ jail sentence and RM210 million fine on him for misappropriating RM42 million of SRC International funds.
Yesterday, the former prime minister was present at the court to attend his 1MDB trial proceedings before High Court Judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah.
