Two workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were arrested for allegedly distributing opium and cash in Arniwala sub-tehsil of Fazilka district on Monday night.

Jalalabad DSP Gursewak Singh said the accused were nabbed on the outskirts of Jalalabad while distributing opium and cash. He claimed that 32.5 gm of opium and cash amounting to Rs 40,600 were recovered from them.

The accused have been identified as Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Lalla Basti, Jalalabad, and Harbhajan Singh Dargan, a resident of Aggarwal Colony, Jalalabad. Dargan had joined the BJP on February 11.

Sukhwinder Singh Kaka Kamboj, president of the BJP’s Fazilka district unit, said a false case had been registered to intimidate BJP workers.
