Deputy Commissioner Anand Kumar Sharma chairs a meeting with officials in Karnal on Sunday.

Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer, Anand Kumar Sharma, said the Election Commission of India had launched the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 of electoral rolls across the country with the objective of ensuring a clean, accurate and error-free voter list.

While addressing officials associated with the campaign at the Mini-Secretariat on Sunday, Sharma said under the revision exercise, Booth- Level Officers (BLOs) would conduct door-to-door verification of voters from June 15 (Monday) to July 14. The campaign aims to ensure that no eligible voter is deprived of voting rights, while ineligible persons or deceased voters are removed from the electoral rolls following due process.

He clarified that no genuine or eligible voter would be deleted from the voter list during the verification process. The names of ineligible voters, if identified, will be removed only after following the prescribed procedures of the Election Commission.

Sharma further said July, was fixed as the qualifying date for the revision exercise. Young citizens who attain the age of 18 years on or before this date will be eligible to apply for voter registration and have their names included in the electoral rolls.

Earlier, Chief Electoral Officer, Haryana, A Sreenivas, reviewed preparations for the campaign through a video conference with DCs and directed them to ensure its successful implementation. He said the Election Commission had supplied enumeration forms 6, 7 and 8, along with identity cards, bags and caps, to the personnel engaged in the campaign.

Sharma said 1,181 BLOs had been deployed across Karnal district and supervisors had been appointed to monitor their work. Subdivisional Magistrates (SDMs) will also closely supervise the verification process, while district-level inspections will be conducted regularly to ensure transparency and accuracy.

He said the draft electoral roll would be published on July 21, while claims and objections could be submitted from July 21 to August 20. The Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) will dispose of all claims and objections by September 18. Citizens dissatisfied with the decision of the ERO may appeal before the District Election Officer and subsequently before the Chief Electoral Officer, Haryana. The final electoral roll will be published on September 22.

Sharma urged the citizens to cooperate with BLOs and election staff during the door-to-door verification drive. For any information or assistance related to the electoral roll revision, citizens could contact the Election Commission’s toll-free helpline number 1950 between 7 am and 9 pm.

He further said that as per Election Commission guidelines, valid documents for verification include identity cards and PPO numbers of Central and state government employees and pensioners, birth certificates, passports, educational certificates, domicile certificates, caste certificates, family registers, and government-issued land or house allotment certificates. The voters may present any one of these documents to the BLO during the verification process.
