The new tariff is expected to be implemented on July 1, 2025, and the electricity bill is expected to rise. Currently, the base electricity tariff under the third regulatory period (RP3) is 39.45 sen per kilowatt-hour, which has been effective since 2014 and will not change before June 30, 2025.

TNB said the government’s decision to implement the fourth regulatory period demonstrates the government’s commitment to the Incentive-Based Regulation (IBR) framework, as IBR has always been the pillar of sustainability and stability in the electricity supply industry.

“It provides a transparent regulatory framework that promotes cost efficiency and ensures the financial and operational sustainability of the system and the industry,” TNB said in a statement, reported Business Today & 8TV News.
