Electricity tariffs for households, SMEs remain unchanged: Nik Nazmi

KUALA LUMPUR – Electricity tariffs for domestic usage and for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) will remain unchanged, said Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

In a Facebook post, Nik Nazmi reiterated the announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during his Budget 2023 speech.

“The government agrees to maintain electricity tariffs for all domestic consumers, and SMEs will not experience an increase,” he said.

“The government understands that with the increasing cost of living that burdens the people, they will be even more pressured if (tariffs are) increased,” he added.

Previously, when tabling Budget 2023, Anwar had announced that households and SMEs will not experience an increase in electricity tariffs.

Instead, he said big corporations will see increased electricity tariffs, with the exception of those in the agriculture and food industries.

Budget 2023 aims to address the rising cost of living, and empower micro, small and medium enterprises under the government’s Malaysia Madani concept.

Anwar also said the government will examine methods to reduce market disruptions and improve business processes to be more efficient by adopting high technology and digitalisation. – The Vibes, March 14, 2023
