KINABATANGAN: A herd of more than 20 elephants again visited the Napier grass plantation managed by the RESPonsible Elephant Conservation Trust (Respect) in Tanini, here, reinforcing the effectiveness of ongoing conservation efforts.
The elephants were seen feeding on the Napier grass from 6.45am until 5pm, marking an extended presence in the area. This is the second recorded visit since Respect established the site in April 2024 as part of an effort to create a sustainable food corridor for Borneo’s elephants.
The first visit took place in July, last year, when a smaller group of eight elephants entered the area. Respect Chairman, Alexander Yee, said the initiative is not only yielding results but proving to be a viable solution to mitigate human-elephant conflict in Kinabatangan.
