PETALING JAYA: Police believe a longstanding dispute prompted the 39-year-old woman to splash hot water on the 33-year-old man with down syndrome in a Bayan Lepas apartment elevator last Friday.

Balik Pulau OCPD Supt Kamarul Rizal Jenal told The Star today, there was an argument between both victim and perpetrator several years ago.

The victim and his attacker, both residents at the same building, have since provided statements to the police.

The suspect is currently being detained and is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt while the victim remains hospitalised.

A 20-second video of security footage showing the victim being splashed with hot water by a fellow resident, resulting in the man suffered burns on his right arm and right side of his body went viral on social media last Friday.
