Eleven Malaysians out of contact after Nepal floods

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 26 - The Embassy of Malaysia in Kathmandu has received reports from travel agencies that they have lost contact with 11 Malaysian nationals believed to be in Nepal’s Rasuwa district following massive floods.

The Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra) said the loss of contact was believed to result from severe disruptions to communication and electricity networks caused by the disaster.

“The Embassy is actively coordinating with local authorities and the search and rescue teams currently being deployed by the Nepalese government to locate the affected Malaysians and ascertain their safety,” it said in a media advisory today.

Wisma Putra also advised Malaysians residing in or travelling through Nepal, particularly those near the affected regions, to remain vigilant, prioritise their personal safety, and strictly follow all safety instructions issued by local authorities.

It urged Malaysians to register and regularly update their contact details via the e-Konsular portal.

For immediate consular assistance or emergencies, Malaysian citizens may contact the Embassy of Malaysia in Kathmandu directly at +977 1 544 5680 / +977 1 544 5681 (general), +977 1 544 5689 (consular), +977 980 100 8000 (emergency helpline), or via email at mwkathmandu@kln.gov.my.

Wisma Putra will continue to monitor the incident closely and provide further updates as soon as verified information on the Malaysian nationals becomes available.

Media reports said a massive flash flood swept through the Bhote Koshi River area in Nepal’s northern Rasuwa district this morning, damaging markets, settlements, and infrastructure.
