Curiosity and innovation received a major boost in Sirmaur today as Industries, Parliamentary Affairs, and Labour & Employment Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan inaugurated a state-of-the-art science laboratory at Government Senior Secondary School, Kaffota, along with 10 other science laboratories established in schools across the district.
Addressing students, teachers, and local residents on the occasion, the minister said that each laboratory had been developed at a cost of Rs 10 lakh under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Following the inauguration, he visited a science and mathematics exhibition put up by students and interacted with them about their projects and innovations.
Harshwardhan Chauhan said that one teacher has been assigned to each laboratory to ensure effective teaching and guidance in science and mathematics. He informed that more than 250 educational models covering various scientific and mathematical concepts have been installed in every laboratory to make learning more practical, engaging, and interactive for students.
He said the laboratories would primarily benefit students from classes VI to X by helping them better understand scientific principles, mathematical concepts, formulas, and logical reasoning through hands-on learning methods. The initiative, he added, is expected to increase students’ interest in science and mathematics while strengthening their conceptual understanding.
Highlighting the state government’s commitment to improving educational standards, the minister said Government Senior Secondary School, Kaffota, has been brought under the CBSE system. He noted that the introduction of the CBSE curriculum in government schools has contributed to an increase in student enrolment.
The minister further stated that more than 2,500 desks have been provided to 20 schools in the Shillai Assembly constituency to improve classroom infrastructure and create a better learning environment for students. Such initiatives, he said, not only address basic educational needs but also help build confidence among students.
Emphasising the government’s focus on strengthening public education, Chauhan said efforts are being made to ensure that all government schools are equipped with essential facilities, including classrooms, laboratories, school buildings, and playgrounds. As a result, students from Sirmaur are performing exceptionally well in various competitive examinations and academic activities.
Citing a recent example, he said that out of 425 posts filled through the recent TGT Arts recruitment examination, 102 selected candidates were from Sirmaur district, reflecting the improving quality of education in the region.
