Elmina crash: More than 30 next-of-kin at Klang hospital awaiting victim identification process

KLANG — It is a gloomy morning at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) as more than 30 relatives and next-of-kin of the Elmina plane crash victims turn up at 9am for the identification procedures.

They are gathered at a makeshift tent outside the hospital’s forensic department, however, authorities, including from the Information Department, have cordoned off the area. No media interviews are allowed so far.

It is learnt that the autopsy process started at 8am today and expected to be completed by noon, pending analysis of DNA samples.

A total of 10 people were killed in yesterday’s crash.

Eight of the victims were six passengers and two crew members aboard the light aircraft, while the other two were a motorcyclist and a car driver who happened to be passing by the crash site.

The plane was on its way from Langkawi to Subang and had been cleared to land at 2.48pm. — August 18, 2023
