- Baroness Eluned Morgan, the First Minister of Wales, has announced that she will resign as the leader of Welsh Labour after her party suffered heavy defeats in the local elections.
- Baroness Morgan lost her seat following Friday’s results, marking the first time a sitting Welsh leader has been defeated in an election for the Welsh Parliament.
- Labour has historically led Wales since the Senedd's establishment in 1999 and has been the largest party for over a century.
- Baroness Morgan said “I take responsibility for the Labour result in Wales” and added that the election results show “we need the Labour government nationally to change course”, in a criticism of Sir Keir Starmer.
- Sir Keir described Baroness Morgan as a “formidable First Minister and tireless champion for Wales” and thanked her for her 30 years of service to Wales and the Labour Party.
