Kota Kinabalu: The fear of bearded pigs (wild boar) might have been wiped out due to the threat of the African Swine Fever (ASF) virus was reduced after the animals were spotted in Tabin Wildlife Reserve area in Lahad Datu recently.
“A number of bearded pigs appearing to be healthy again reappeared in Tabin Wildlife Reserve area last week,” Bring Back Our Rare Animals (Bora) project manager Dr Zainal Zahari Zainuddin said.
He said the most recent presence of the healthy animals (Sus Barbatus) numbering not less than a dozen heads was captured on camera traps July 17, bringing relief after people thought the bearded pigs might have been wiped out by ASF, which had crippled the pig farming industry.
