Winners of the 2026 Emmy Awards have been announced, recognizing the year’s most acclaimed television series.
Hosted by Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay, the 78th annual ceremony aired live on NBC and streamed on Peacock. This year’s ceremony was spread across three nights, with several categories having been announced last weekend.
The biggest awards of the night were doled out toThe Pitt for best drama series andWidow’s Bay for best comedy series — one of 14 total trophies the new Apple TV+ show took home.
Just moments into the ceremony, Jean Smart made Emmys history, tying Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Cloris Leachman for the most overall acting wins (eight) in Emmy history. With the win, Smart has officially taken home lead actress honors for every season of Hacks, marking the first time an actor has accomplished that feat.
Matthew Rhys made Emmys history later on, becoming the first actor to win two leading actor categories in the same year; first for lead actor in a limited or anthology series, and then for lead actor in a comedy series.
Stephen Root, 74, also made history as the oldest winner in the Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series category for his role in the new comedy series Widow’s Bay.
Michael J. Fox was honored with the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award, delivering an emotional speech later in the evening. The In Memoriam segment honored Dolly Parton, Catherine O’Hara, James Burrows, Rob Reiner, and others lost during the last year.
