
The Agriculture and Food Security Ministry aims to elevate the country’s paddy production, especially in Sabah which is lacking.
Its Deputy Minister Chan Foong Hin said out of the RM5.39 billion budget allocated to the Ministry this year, RM1.62 billion will go to subsidies and incentives for paddy prices, paddy fertilisers and hill paddy (padi huma).
“If we compare, the entire country has an average self-sufficiency level (SSL) of 65 per cent (for paddy), but when we zoom into Sabah the figure is not encouraging.
