I am delighted and encouraged to read the positive response from SGM President Johnny Ng and Manager Joanne, on my story titled, "Rewrite the rules for more companies share profits with employees, fewer ship profit & jobs overseas" published by newswav.com last Saturday, 22 August 2026. Johnny stated, “All faiths and tradition have their respective version of business ethics. But all could agree that wealth must be created not for self only, it must benefit society also. We believe everything must be people centered. Creating wealth or value for self and society does not conflict itself, in fact, this is what makes business sustainable. I hope those in the government could formulate policy that ‘guide’ businesses in this direction."

I like to share the feedback from another regular reader, Dato' Bijayo Adi Satria who narrated that “Corporations exist to have more than just profit goals but it is to contribute to the total economic ecosystem. Within their own business segment there will be times when losses happen as their way of doing business are affected by the external forces such as changes in technology. So instead of cutting jobs, retraining is a critical investment and even cutting salaries is also a viable way of maintaining jobs and hence continue to maintain the mainly consumption economy. The main objective must always be to enhance the welfare of human capital which must always be treated differently from other factors of production. And that includes sharing profits with employees whose experience is of a higher value than the percentage of profits.”

As a veteran corporate HRD practitioner, I agree with both Johnny and Dato' Bijayo that profit sharing is a win-win. The way it works is simple. When a company is doing well, workers get a portion of the company's profits on top of a good base wage, just like executives commonly do. Profit sharing gives employees a stake in the outcome of their work, increases their take-home pay, and makes workers more satisfied with their job overall. So it makes sense that there's mounting evidence that profit sharing makes businesses more productive and innovative. As such, to get more companies to share profits with their employees, the MADANI government can create a new tax credit for companies that do just that.
