
Kota Kinabalu: A 56-year-old man was fined a total of RM20,000 by the Sessions Court here for employing two Indonesian women, who have no valid passes.
Teh Chee Hing admitted before Judge Azreena Aziz to hiring the foreign women, aged 32 and 25, at Tong Sam Hing Enterprise, Taman Mottou in Keningau between 12.40pm and 1.30pm on Sept 27, this year. The court ordered Teh to pay RM10,000 fine or one month in jail for each employee.
Teh had committed an offence under Section 55B(1) of the Immigration Act which carries a fine of between RM10,000 and RM50,000 or jail of up to 12 months or both for each such employee.
Meanwhile, another man was fined RM10,000 for allowing two illegal immigrants in his premises.
Chang Vui Shiun, 50, pleaded guilty to letting two Indonesian illegal immigrant men aged 33 and 42 at Sykt International Home Gas, Kg Rampayan, Jalan Tuaran Bypass at 3.10pm on Sept 13, this year.
The offence under Section 55E (1) of the Immigration Act provides for a fine of between RM5,000 and RM30,000 or a jail term of up to a year, or both, on each illegal immigrant, on conviction. Chang was ordered to pay RM5,000 fine or one month in jail for each illegal immigrant.
The court allowed Chang to pay the first payment of RM4,000 on the day of his conviction and the second payment of RM6,000 on or before Feb 28, next year.
The court also set Feb 28, 2023 for review of the payment. Immigration prosecuting officer Chin Tze Mee prosecuted.
