On 09 December, 2025, in conjunction with Visit Malaysia year (VM) 2026, a young 33 year old local entrepreneur, Khairul Aming, invested RM4m to set up for Rembayung Restaurant at Kampung Baru in KL. It offers an overall positive reception for its authentic Malay food, great ambience (KLCC View), and good service. It focuses on traditional kampung food, with high ratings and family-friendliness. Khairul is supported by his business partner, Rembayung Managing Director, Mohd Shahrullail Sujari and a team of enthusiastic young chefs, kitchen helpers and customer service staff. I remember on 26 October, 2025, whilst attending the 47th ASEAN Summit in KL; New Zealand Prime Minister Christoper Luxon, famously met the founder & owner, celebrity chef & social influencer Khairul. They shared a traditional Malaysian breakfast featuring roti jala, nasi lemak & teh tarik. The meeting was a gesture of NZ PM's appreciation for Khairul's travel series filmed in New Zealand. His personal website that achieves his travel series, such as his “Travel Dunia Bersama Khairul Aming” series filmed in various locations of New Zealand. Tourism Malaysia ushered in the New Year with a nationwide celebration across all major international gateways and transportation hubs to welcome international visitors to Malaysia, marking the official launch to VM2026 campaign. Leveraging Malaysia's immense potential as a world-class tourist destination, VM2026 is expected to drive a surge in visitors arrivals while generating business and employment opportunities, thus enhancing the nation's global image, and delivering tangible economic benefits to the local communities at every nooks and corners around the cities, small towns and villages. I fully agree tourism is a global industry, but at the local level, its success is depended, to a significant extent, on the conditions or destinations sites and the support of all communities. This must be understood that achieving sustainable tourism for indigenous Malay cuisines has to be a continuous process.
