Long Pasia: Some 100 participants consisting of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) staff and affiliated members of the UMS Four Wheel Drive Volunteer Club (UMS4WDVC) participated in the five-day Trans Borneo 2023 programme in Kg Long Pasia from June 13.

About 10 transfer knowledge managed to be carried out during the programme.

Themed “To Long Pasia”, the programme was organised by the Club (UMS4WDVC) in collaboration with UMS Hospital through KPT Prihatin Komuniti Sejahtera (KRIS) and the Academy Department, Faculty, Centre and Institute of UMS.

UMS Vice Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Kasim Mansor said the noble programme should be documented through book publications, photos or video as reference materials.

“Therefore, programme like this should be carried out regularly so that the rural communities do not fall behind in terms of transferring knowledge that is beneficial to them. Hopefully, with the transfer of this knowledge they can further improve the standard of living of the rural community and become community with values, knowledge and always wants to move forward,” he said.

Dr Kasim said among the projects carried out throughout the programme was the transfer of health, medical and dental knowledge led by UMS Hospital and the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.

“The installation of the e-Desa Long Pasia solar system and compost technology was led by the Faculty of Engineering in collaboration with the Faculty of Sustainable Agriculture.

“The transfer of aquaculture technology and water filtration technology knowledge was led by the Borneo Marine Research Institute and the Biotechnology Research Institute. The transfer of knowledge of Madani Malaysian Art and culture was led by the Azman Hashim Gallery and the Academy of Creative Arts and Technology as well as Sports and Leisure Education run by the UMS Sports Centre,” said Dr Kasim.

In addition, the transfer of ICT and computer technology knowledge, environmental awareness and biodiversity as well as safety and society were managed by the Department of Information and Communication Technology, the Institute of Tropical Biology and Conservation and the Security Division of UMS.

Also present were UMS Academic and International Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Shahril Yusof who is also the President of UMS 4WDVC, Chairman of Trans Borneo 2023, Professor Datuk Dr D Kamarudin D Mudin, Long Pasia Village Head Yakub Sim and SK Long Pasia Headmaster Micheal Opai.
