In a resounding call for the advancement of Malaysian arts and culture, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has underscored the pivotal role that the Tourism, Arts, and Culture Ministry (Motac) must play in shaping the nation's identity. Speaking at the inaugural Putrajaya Cultural Festival 2023, he emphasized that nurturing artistic expression and cultural diversity should be intertwined with the country's economic growth.

Prime Minister Anwar's address resonated with a deep sense of national pride, highlighting Malaysia's unique position as a nation where arts and culture, with a central focus on Malay heritage, intertwine harmoniously with the rich tapestry of ethnicities from Perlis to Sabah. He recognized the significance of promoting these cultural treasures to both local and global audiences.

In his vision, Prime Minister Anwar sees Malaysia's multi-racial society not as a source of division but as a wellspring of strength. He urged Malaysians to embrace their differences, acknowledging that diversity is the bedrock upon which the nation's greatness stands. His call to view racial, ethnic, and cultural distinctions as assets rather than liabilities resonated with the audience.

While lauding the contributions of the tourism sector to the national economy, Prime Minister Anwar pledged that Budget 2024, set to be presented in Parliament in October, would allocate substantial resources to further bolster the industry. This commitment underscores the government's dedication to supporting tourism and, importantly, the arts and culture sector.

Prime Minister Anwar's speech did not stop at promises; he also commended Motac for its commendable efforts in organizing the Putrajaya Cultural Festival 2023. As a gesture of his faith in Motac's mission, he suggested that the festival be established as an annual event in the Motac calendar, cementing its importance in the nation's cultural landscape.

The Putrajaya Cultural Festival 2023, a collaborative effort between Motac, Putrajaya Corporation (PPj), and Istana Budaya, spans from September 28 to October 1. Themed "Unity Through Arts and Culture," the festival seeks to foster harmony and unity through the celebration of art, culture, and heritage.

Throughout the four-day extravaganza, visitors can partake in various engaging activities. These include the Putrajaya Culture Fun Run & Gathering, featuring a five-kilometer run in traditional attire; captivating stage performances celebrating the spirit of independence; art showcases; heritage food demonstrations; handicraft exhibitions; and cultural, art, and tourism competitions. All these activities underscore the festival's commitment to showcasing Malaysia's rich cultural heritage.

Prime Minister Anwar's impassioned call for the elevation of Malaysian arts and culture reflects a profound understanding of their intrinsic value. By empowering Motac and committing resources to the sector, the government aims to celebrate Malaysia's diverse heritage and further propel the nation toward economic progress while fostering unity through the arts. The Putrajaya Cultural Festival serves as a testament to this vision, offering an immersive experience that resonates with both Malaysians and international visitors.
