Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim has declared an unwavering commitment to eliminating hardcore poverty in Terengganu within the next two months. As of May 2, a staggering 1,663 families in the state still grapple with the burdens of extreme poverty, prompting urgent action from both federal and state authorities.
Anwar underscored the imperative for federal government agencies to collaborate closely with the state administration to expedite efforts in eradicating hardcore poverty. "How can we stay passive when over 1,000 families lack basic necessities? The dire situation demands swift and decisive action," he remarked during the Terengganu-level Madani 2024 Aidilfitri celebration at Gong Badak Sports Complex.
The event which was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Dato' Seri Fadillah Yusof, Terengganu Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, and Plantation and Commodities Minister Dato' Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, served as a platform to stimulate collective support for poverty alleviation initiatives.
Anwar urged the populace, particularly in Terengganu, to dismiss perceptions that the federal government neglects the state due to political differences. He emphasized the government's steadfast commitment to prioritize projects aimed at enhancing the welfare of Terengganu residents, spanning flood mitigation, education, healthcare, safety, and infrastructure development.
The Prime Minister also stressed the need for rigorous oversight to ensure timely execution of crucial projects, including flood mitigation efforts. Moreover, he urged the state government to engage with relevant stakeholders, such as the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry, to explore avenues for domestic and foreign investments that can spur economic growth and prosperity in Terengganu.
The collaborative endeavor between federal and state authorities, coupled with proactive measures to attract investments, holds the promise of transforming the socio-economic landscape of Terengganu. With concerted efforts and unwavering resolve, the vision of a poverty-free Terengganu can be realized, heralding a future of prosperity and opportunity for all its inhabitants.
