Following boycott movements, many organisations experienced a decline in profits, and some even had to cease business operations at certain outlets. Most recently, a Starbucks outlet in Kuantan also had to bid its customers goodbye.
Kuantan’s first Starbucks in Berjaya Megamall officially closed its doors on April 30 after serving the people for 21 years.
A reporter from China Press paid a visit to the outlet before it closed for good and noticed that the merchandise had been cleared, and the employees were packing the items. Some drinks were also unavailable – only Iced Americano and selected beverages were on sale.
All hot beverages were completely taken off the menu.
What about the affected employees?
According to one of the workers there, the management of the coffee house was told about the closure just a few days earlier by the management of Berjaya Megamall. However, no reason was given for the closure.
Fortunately, that was not the only outlet in Kuantan. At the time of writing (April 5), Kuantan still has three other outlets located in the East Coast Mall, Indera Mahkota, and at Teluk Cempedak Beach.
As for the affected employees, they have been reassigned to the outlet in East Coast Mall.
According to the employee, many customers came to say goodbye before the outlet officially closed its doors. The outlet in Berjaya Megamall opened in 2004.
In December 2024, the very last Starbucks outlet in Kelantan also ceased operations, making it the 50th outlet to be axed.
