England’s south coast ‘not prepared’ for migrant arrivals, says police commissioner

• Masked demonstrators blocked roads in Portsmouth after about 140 migrants arrived at Eastney Marina following a rescue near the Isle of Wight.
• Hampshire and Isle of Wight police and crime commissioner Donna Jones warned that the south coast is ”not set up” for migrant arrivals if traffickers alter their routes further west.
• Local MP Joe Robertson voiced serious concern over the unusually long western crossing and confirmed he would contact the Home Office regarding potential new smuggling routes.
• The Home Office condemned the “intimidating” behaviour of protesters in Portsmouth.
