Travis Head scored a unbeaten 154 and Marnus Labuschagne contributed 77 as Australia successfully chased down a formidable 316-run target to beat England by seven wickets in the first of their five-match One Day International Series at Trent Bridge.

Australia reached 317-3 with six overs to spare after bowling England out for 315 in 49.4 overs.

It was a 13th successive ODI win for last year’s World Cup winners, and sixth in a row over England, despite being forced to field a depleted line-up because of illness in their camp and injury.

Head’s highest ODI score, coming off 129 balls with 20 fours and five sixes, was ably supported by Labuschagne, who earlier had also proven key in restricting England’s strong start to the contest.

Australia 317-3, Head 154, Labuschagne 77, Jacks 0-25 (6) – Australia win by seven wickets

Chris Wilson

Speaking to Sky, Brook says that England “did everything we said we were going to do”.

“We went out there and scored quickly and when we came out to bowl, we tried to take wickets but it wasn’t our day today, hopefully it can be in the next.

“We wanted a big score, it was difficult in the middle and holding in the pitch.

“We ended up getting a below-par score.

“I felt good out there myself, Jacks played well. It’s a long series and hopefully we can carry on that momentum.”

19:45

Chris Wilson

Harry Brook spoke to BBC after the game, and he suggests that “it probably went wrong at the toss when I batted first”.

“It tuned out to be a belter. A tough night but we move forward. It’s a five-game series and four more to go.

“Last night I was thinking about bowling first then changed my mind 20 minutes before the toss. Hindisght is a beautiful thing. You can’t think too much into it.

“We probably didn’t rotate spin well enough through the middle period. It’s something I am working on personally as well. There were too many dot ball in the middle period. I felt we were in a good position in the halfway point. Under the lights at the end there it got better and they could hit through the ball easier.”

Australia 317-3, Head 154, Labuschagne 77, Jacks 0-25 (6) – Australia win by seven wickets

19:40

Chris Wilson

Ricky Ponting is also speaking on Sky, and he calls it a “very comprehensive run-chase”.

“Travis playing the way they did, Australia will be very happy with that. With no [Mitchell] Starc or [Josh] Hazelwood in the game.

“I think they managed things well. Marsh did really well but Head was incredible.

“He’s backing himself and doesn’t think he can get out. He keeps things simple and has the backing of the coaches to play that way. It’s amazing what happens when that environment is created.”

19:36

Chris Wilson

Stuart Broad calls Travis Head an “incredible player” across all three formats.

“[He’s] the most dangerous powerplay batter going, England knew they had to get rid of him. He doesn’t need 10 balls to get in.

“England were under par with the bat, especially here, once it skids on slightly, its a great place to play.

“He’s got such a natural ability to find the boundary. His main strength over the off-side. England were hoping the spin would tie him down.

“I think hitting pace is his greatest strength and England were leaning on Rashid to get him out.

“Labuschagne played that finishing role perfectly and didn’t panic. He just settled in going from fifth gear into first.”

19:08

Chris Wilson

Rashid is the man for the wickets and England go with him again. He’s hit for a single off the first ball.

Head steps up to drive away for a single, taking him to 127 and the highest score at this venue against England.

Labuschagne sweeps for four before Head does the same. Too easy for the Aussies.

The over ends with a single.

Australia 251-3 (37) Head 126, Labuschagne 43, Livingstone 1-48 (6)

19:05

Chris Wilson

Livingstone is next to try and break the Australian pairing, with the Winviz 75% in Australia’s favour.

Labuschagne hits two sixes in three balls to really put the Aussies in control. Two full deliveries, two sixes.

He sweeps the next delivery for four, and finishes with a single.

Australia 233 (36) Head 125, Labuschagne 26, Carse 0-42 (5)

19:00

Chris Wilson

Carse begins his next over in better fashion than last time, where he conceded 16 runs to Travis Head. Two singles and a double conceded this time off the first four.

A brilliant shot on the fifth ball from Labuschagne grabs a four, watching the ball onto the face of the bat andu guiding the ball past the slip.

Australia 225-3 (32) Head 124, Labuschagne 19, Jacks 0-22 (5)

18:56

Chris Wilson

Australia need 96 from 96 balls as we begin the 33rd over in Nottingham. Labuschagne starts it with some runs.

Head goes for a single, his partner does the same, and the over ends with a dot ball.

Australia 220-3 (32) Head 123, Labuschagne 15, Carse 0-34 (4)

18:48

Chris Wilson

Carse is up next as the England attack tries something else new, but a flick of the wrist from Head brings him another four.

The next ball is hit just over the head of mid-on for another four. It looks like Head might be opting for the quick runs here.

Head threads another four through to end the over, as the players head for drinks.

Australia 203-3 (32) Head 107, Labuschagne 14, Jacks 0-17 (4)

18:45

Chris Wilson

Labuschagne scoops a nice shot over his shoulder for one off Jacks’ first ball, before a dot ball follows for Head. He limits the left-hander to two, and three off the over overall.

Australia 200-3 (32) Head 106, Labuschagne 12, Potts 1-33 (6)

18:42

Chris Wilson

Potts’ sixth over is a less eventful one, with a few singles taking Australia to 200-3.

They need 116 to win.

Australia 196-3 (31) Head 105, Labuschagne 8, Rashid 0-31 (7)

18:38

Chris Wilson

Rashid begins with a couple of difficult deliveries for Labuschagne, but he’s equal to them, hitting the second for one.

Head is back facing, and he drives a shot into the surface for four.

Australia 190-3 (30) Head 100, Labuschagne 8, Potts 1-29 (4)

18:33

Chris Wilson

Potts is back up to bowl, and he begins with a wide. Off the third ball, Head squeezes a shot between the fielders for two runs, before he’s gifted a high delivery on the off-side to make his century.

Australia 184-3 (29) Head 97, Labuschagne 6 , Rashid 0-25 (5)

18:28

Chris Wilson

A single from Head is followed by a ball that is straight into his leg, and there’s a call for lbw. England send it upstairs, and the ultra-edge shows no bat. Hawkeye shows that the impact is in-line and would’ve clipped the top of the stumps, but the umpire’s decision stands.

Bethell prevents the four on the final ball of the over.

Australia 181-3 (28) Head 96, Labuschagne 4 , Archer 0-52 (6)

18:22

Chris Wilson

Archer comes in to bowl next, looking to finally land the wicket of Head, who’s heading for a century.

He forces Labuschagne onto the defensive, before a single pits him against Head again. The Aussie steps aside and picks his spot to guide it away for a four.

Head moves to 96.

Australia 173-3 (27) Head 89, Labuschagne 2 , Bethell 1-19 (3)

18:17

Chris Wilson

The rest of Bethell’s over limits Australia to just four runs.

WICKET! Green bowled for 32

18:14

Chris Wilson

Bethell’s first delivery of the over just slides under Green’s bat, with the under-spin taking it to the foot of the stumps!

Australia 169-3 now.

Australia 169-2 (26) Head 88, Green 32, Archer 0-45 (5)

18:12

Chris Wilson

The change is made and Archer is brought in to try and end this partnership. He almost does it immediately, his first ball just narrowly avoiding the edge from Head’s bat.

His second ball goes for one, and the third is drilled back down the wicket for four.

Head flashes the last ball of the over past Rashid for four.

Australia 159-2 (25) Head 83, Green 27, Bethell 0-16 (2)

18:07

Chris Wilson

Some great fielding from Jacks at mid-off saves a four from Head, before a wide from Bethell.

Australia 152-2 (24) Head 82, Green 22, Livingstone 1-29 (1)

18:04

Chris Wilson

It’s swept behind by Green for a four off Livingtone’s first ball of the next over. It’s composed from the Englishman until the final ball, when Head smashes a low shot off-side for a four.

Australia 143-2 (23) Head 78, Green 17, Bethell 0-9 (1)

18:01

Chris Wilson

Bethell’s first ball is swept behind by Green for a four, but he follows up with two dot balls. It would’ve been a fine first over, but Head clips it behind four a four to finish the over off.

Australia 134-2 (21) Head 74, Green 12, Livingstone 1-21 (4) – Australia need 182 to win

17:58

Chris Wilson

Head swivels to hit the six before Livingstone comes close with a delivery that bounces into the hands of the ‘keeper.

Dot balls for the rest of the over, and Jacob Bethell is next to step up with the ball.

Australia 127-2 (21) Head 68, Green 12, Rashid 0-22 (5)

17:55

Chris Wilson

Rashid up next, looking for Test wicket number 200. Just two runs conceded, with four dot balls.

Australia 125-2 (20) Head 67, Green 11, Livingstone 1-14 (3)

17:52

Chris Wilson

Livingstone looks for his second wicket of the day, and he’s close with the second ball as it hits the inside edge and bounces off the foot of Head.

A couple of singles follow for Green and Head, before Green is taken! The Aussie opts for the review though.

Livingstone’s delivery bounces off Green’s foot, but did he make contact with the bat before it bounced into the hands? He didn’t.

Hawkeye takes a look to see if it’s lbw, but it looks like it’s missing off-stump, and it was. Not out.

Australia 122-2 (19) Head 66, Green 10, Rashid 0-20 (4)

17:46

Chris Wilson

Rashid’s first ball is a stray one but Duckett saves it from the boundary. His second isn’t much better, bouncing just short of the boundary for a four after Head sweeps it back towards him.

There’s half a shout for lbw before the over finishes with a couple of singles.

Australia 113-2 (18) Head 61, Green 6, Livingstone 1-12 (2)

17:40

Chris Wilson

An uneventful over from Livingstone as he’s hit for a couple of singles before finishing strongly.

Time for a drinks break.

Australia 111-2 (17) Head 60, Green 5, Rashid 0-11 (3)

17:37

Chris Wilson

Slightly over-pitched from Rashid and it’s fired right back over his head for six by Head.

On the third ball, Archer spills an easy collection to hand Australia two runs, before Head closes outnthe over with an other single.

Australia 102-2 (16) Head 51, Green 5, Livingstone 1-10 (1)

17:34

Chris Wilson

Cameron Green steps into the crease and hits Livongstone for four to settle himself on the first ball, and Australia take two more runs to get to 102-2.

Australia 96-2 (15) Head 50, Smith 32 c&b, Livingstone 1-5 (1)

17:32

Chris Wilson

Liam Livingstone steps up to take the ball, and two good pieces of fielding prevent him from conceding two fours in his first two deliveries.

But out nowhere, the delivery to Smith is on the outside edge, high on the bat, and it’s clipped straight into the hands of Livingstone!

Smith goes for 32.

Australia 92-1 (15) Head 50, Smith 28, Rashid 0-2 (2)

17:28

Chris Wilson

That was Head’s 17th ODI 50 in just 66 matches.

Rashid’s second ball of the over brings a brief shout for lbw on Smith, but England decide not to review. It looked close!

Just one from his second over too.

Australia 91-1 (14) Head 50, Smith 27, Jacks 0-10 (3)

17:26

Chris Wilson

Head hits a low drive past mid-wicket for a four, to end a brief period of frustration. He raises both arms accordingly.

He’s got another four soon enough, reaching for the back-cut that outruns Carse, and that brings up his half-century.

Smith comes out of the over with a couple of singles.

Australia 80-1 (13) Head 41, Smith 25, Rashid 0-1 (1)

17:22

Chris Wilson

Rashid is on 199 Test wickets as he steps up for his first over of the day.

Smith knocks the second ball for one, before Head is limited to four dot balls.

Just one off Rashid’s first over then.

Australia 79-1 (12) Head 41, Smith 23, Jacks 0-3 (2)

17:19

Chris Wilson

Jacks is up again. Two off the first two balls, before a brilliant dive from Brook saves the two.

Two more dot balls follow, and it’ll be Rashid up next.

Australia 77-1 (11) Head 40, Smith 23, Carse 0-17 (3)

17:16

Chris Wilson

Worth noting that England were 59-1 at the end of the first 10 overs.

Carse is back up to bowl now, and he’s hit for two of the first ball but follows it up with four dot balls.

His final delivery is a little more wayward though, bouncing at length, and Smith swivels to hammer it over for a six.

Australia 69-1 (7) Head 40, Smith 15, Jacks 0-1 (1) - need 316 runs to win

17:12

Chris Wilson

England opt for the spinner now as Will Jacks steps up.

Smith drives for one on the second ball, with Head unable to get any runs on the board as the power play period comes to an end.

Just one over conceded by Jacks there.

Australia 68-1 (7) Head 40, Smith 14, Carse 0-9 (2) - need 316 runs to win

17:08

Chris Wilson

Carse goes for his first boundary of the day as Head hits for four.

The next four balls force Head on the defensive, but the Australian flicks the last ball away for a four.

Australia 60-1 (7) Head 32, Smith 14, Archer 0-35 (4)

17:04

Chris Wilson

Archer is hit for six in the first ball of his next over, with Head going conservative again on the second before the third lands just short of the catching chance!

Two safe shots follow, before Smith hammers another six with the ball bouncing at head height.

Australia 47-1 (7) Head 25, Smith 8, Carse 0-1 (1) - need 269 runs to win

16:59

Sonia Twigg

England have made a bowling change, it’s not an unexpected one, Carse has come on in place of Archer.

The first two balls are played conservatively by Head, and the third again just skewed awkwardly off the bat offering no chance at a run.

Just one from Carse’s first over.

Australia 45-1 (6) Head 23, Smith 8, potts 1-23 (3) - need 270 runs to win

16:55

Sonia Twigg

Smith has dispatched Potts for 6! It just dropped over the rope, but the ball is being carted around.

Head follows it up with a drive through extra cover to bring up another boundary, and adds to it with another just wide of the off stump.

Australia 30-1 (5) Head 15, Smith 1, Archer 0-22 (3) - need 286 runs to win

16:51

Sonia Twigg

Head has perfectly timed a drive off Archer to the boundary, but the next ball carves him up and narrowly goes over the stumps. It has brought a wry smile from the Australian.

Another flick from Head past fine leg brings another boundary.

Archer has been quite costly so far.

Wicket! Marsh out for 10! Australia 22-1 (4) Head 7, Smith 1, Potts 1-7 (2) - need 294 runs to win

16:47

Sonia Twigg

Potts has just been lifted straight over his head by Marsh for another boundary, and England will want to tighten up.

Marsh goes for another and he hasn’t got hold of it! It’s straight into the hands of Carse.

That is just the early breakthrough that England would have wanted.

Smith flicks his first ball into the air and there are cries of catch it but it falls well short of the fielder.

Almost another! Carse goes for a one-handed diving stunner, and it almost paid off! He got his hand to it, he was so far off the boundary, and Head has been handed a lifeline.

Australia 16-0 (3) Marsh 6, head 6, Archer 0-14 (2) - need 300 runs to win

16:41

Sonia Twigg

A loose ball from Archer is driven to the boundary by Marsh.

A second boundary is saved on the rope as one just glances off the face of the bat.

Australia 6-0 (2) Marsh 1, Head 4, Potts 0-1 (1) - need 310 runs to win

16:34

Sonia Twigg

Potts bowls from the other end and there is early movement! His first ball just evades the outside edge of the bat, and that’s encouraging with the new ball.

The batters have struggled to get Potts away.

Australia 5-0 (1) Marsh 0, Head 4, archer 0-4 (1) - need 311 runs to win

16:30

Sonia Twigg

When Archer has the ball in hand there is just that sense that anything could happen, and keep an eye on the speeds!

The first one had a hint of sharp movement as the ball jagged back into Marsh.

Archer has pace, but he is also such a skillful bowler.

Head brings up the first boundary with a hit over the top, partly due to the added pace.

England bowled out for 316

16:26

Sonia Twigg

Jofra Archer has ball in hand and Australia have been set 316 to win

Here is another story from the cricketing world during the break

Sri Lanka batter closes in on Don Bradman and major Test records

Kamindu Mendis continued his remarkable start to his Test match career, scoring his fourth century in just seven Test matches.

After receiving a promotion from number seven to number five following his prolific form against England earlier in the summer, Mendis scored another century against New Zealand on 18 September as he helped his side fight back from 106 for four to 302 for seven at the close of play.

Against the kiwis, Mendis scored a fluent 173-ball 114, taking his total to 809 runs in 11 innings, averaging 80.90 in the format, the highest for any batter after Sir Don Bradman, with a minimum of 10 innings.

However, Wisden does not count any batter in their official list before they have a minimum of 20 innings. Although only Bradman has a higher average batting at number five or lower for a minimum of 10 innings in Test cricket.

Bethell out for 35! Rashid out for 0! England all out for 315 with two balls remaining

15:57

Sonia Twigg

Head will bowl the final over of the innings, and Bethell has dispatched him for six, followed up with another edged streaky four.

The crowd are getting behind England now at the end of this innings.

He couldn’t add another and was caught by Labuschagne on the boundary, trying to hit the ball down the ground for six rather than square.

Rashid comes down the ground first ball of his innings and is caught, and that is the end of England’s innings with 315 all out.

England 304-8 (49) Bethell 25, Potts 11, Zampa 3-49 (10)

15:53

Sonia Twigg

Zampa is back on for his final over.

Potts goes for a big swing and a miss, and time is now massively running out for England.

Potts followed it up with a reverse swing and a miss that sparked an appeal for a glove and caught behind, the tourists sent it upstairs, but there was a clear gap between glove and ball as it went past Potts and he survived.

Another review, this time for lbw, again against Potts. There was no inside edge and DRS showed the ball going over the stumps. The number 10 has another lifeline.

Potts smashes Zampa’s last ball of the day for six to bring up England’s 300.

England 297-8 (48) Bethell 24, Potts 5, Head 0-23 (4)

15:47

Sonia Twigg

Head will continue, normally the seamers come back on, but when the spinners have been this prolific, Marsh was probably thinking that quite rightly it makes sense to stick with them.

England are just rotating the strike and trying to avoid being bowled out.

Archer out for 4! England 291-8 (47) Bethell 21, Potts 1, Labuschagne 3-39 (6)

15:44

Sonia Twigg

Zampa has another, but it will be Marnus Labuschagne to bowl again.

Bethell gets the first delivery of the over away for a single, but Archer carves one straight to the fielder the next ball.

He just carved the ball straight to Connolly at point, another piece of brainless batting from England, and the hosts find themselves eight down.

England 287-7 (46) Bethell 19, Archer 4, Head 0-17 (3)

15:39

Sonia Twigg

Bethell comes dow the ground and has hit head through cover for a boundary.

At one point ti looked like England might be disappointed with 350, but they’d be lucky to get to 300 now.

Three dots from Archer, but they will also want to avoid being bowled out, and Archer finds the boundary the very next ball.

Archer tries to reverse sweep but misses the ball.

Brydon Carse out for 2! England 278-7 (45) Bethell 14, Archer 0, Zampa 3-42 (9)

15:37

Sonia Twigg

Cameron Green has another catch! Brydon Carse has done exactly the same as Liam Livingstone before him, tried to hit Zampa down the ground but just spooned it into the air and straight to the fielder on the rope.

England have lost 65 for five since Duckett was out, and that brings Archer to the crease.

England 277-6 (44) Bethell 13, Carse 2, Head 0-8 (2)

15:32

Sonia Twigg

Carse and Bethell are just trying to score runs against Head, who won’t give them much time to settle.

There was a half appeal, when Carse was struck on the pad, but the umpire was unmoved and Australia were not convinced enough to send the deicison upstairs.

Wicket! Livingstone out for 13! England 272-6 (43) Bethell 10, Carse 0, Zampa 2-41 (8)

15:30

Sonia Twigg

Livingstone tries to go after Zampa the first ball of his eighth over, charges down the pitch and tries to hit him over his head but the ball skies straight into the air and into the very safe hands of Cameron Green.

Brydon Carse is the next England player to walk out to the middle and he can bat. He has just been called up to the test tour of Pakistan, but just plays out the rest of the over, giving Zampa a wicket maiden, and the first maiden of the day.

England 272-5 (42) Livingstone 13, Bethell 10, Short 1-68 (10)

15:25

Sonia Twigg

Bethell is not having the best of luck when he goes back, he looks uncomfortable and just plays Short straight back to the bowler, before carving the next to a fielder on the offside despite standing well outside leg.

England have slowed down a bit.

England 269-5 (41) Livignstone 11, Bethell 9, Labuschagne 2-35 (5)

15:22

Sonia Twigg

Labuschagne will come back on for the 41st over, England might want to start targeting the shorter boundaries at some point.

Bethell goes back and defends the first ball of the over, but the second is cut away, although there’s a man on the off side boundary so just added one run to the total.

Another one that stuck slightly in the surface and Livingstone just pushes at it, but unlike Duckett and Brook it went wide of the bowler.

England 261-5 (39) Livingstone 8, Bethell 4, Labuschagne 2-31 (4)

15:15

Sonia Twigg

Debutant Bethell will want to make an impression, as will Livingstone, and this is the last recognised pair of batters.

Labuschagne has stayed on and Bethell gets off the mark with a cut through backward point to bring his first runs and boundary in ODI cricket.

The next one has gone through him and thudded into the keeper’s pads, only narrowly missed off stump.

Wicket! Smith out for 23! England 256-5 (38) Livingstone 7, Bethell 0, Short 1-61 (8)

15:11

Sonia Twigg

Short to Smith, and Smith comes down the wicket and hits the bowler straight back over his head for four.

He came close to following it up with another boundary from the third ball of the over, it was caught on the rope but Hardie has to drop it.

Smith tries to go big again, but this time the ball does go straight into the hands of Connolly.

Smith had been handed a lifeline just two balls before but didn’t make the most of it.

That’s Short’s first ODI wicket.

England 248-4 (37) Smith 16, Livingstone 6, Labuschagne 2-26 (3)

15:08

Sonia Twigg

Jamie Smith has carted Labuschagne to the boundary for six, but will have to be careful not to fall into the same trap as Brook and Duckett before him.

He goes for one wide outside the off stump but it’s well-stopped in the ring. Smith drives down the ground but only picks up a single.

England 240-4 (36) Smith 9, Livingstone 2, Short 0-53 (6)

England have a bit of a rebuilding job here, these two can be explosive, but they also have enough time to play themselves in before trying to push on the score as much as possible.

Although Livingstone is struggling to get Short away for runs, and is forced to improvise a paddle scoop to get off the mark with two, and he follows it up with his first boundary from the same shot, but t a ball later.

Wicket! Brook out for 39! England 232-4 (35) Smith 8, Livingstone 0, Labuschagne 2-18 (2)

14:59

Sonia Twigg

Labuschagne’s first over might have brought the crucial breakthrough, but the first ball of his second was a free full toss which Jamie Smith dutifully dispatched to the boundary for four.

Brook gets a long way across and looked like it might have been close to lbw but he gets back on it and sweeps the ball for a fine four along the ground.

The next delivery is swatted into the crowd for six, but he has another wicket next ball!

Brook tries to drive it, goes back and tries to punch down the ground but again the ball sticks in the pitch and the England captain hits it straight back to the bowler and has to go for 39.

England 217-3 (34) Brook 29, Smith 3, Head 0-3 (1)

14:55

Sonia Twigg

After Labuschagne got a breakthrough, it’s time for Travis Head. He starts by throwing himself after a bumped ball from Jamie Smith.

Head has rattled through this over and kept it very tidy, just the three runs from it.

Wicket! Duckett out for 95! England 213-3 (33) Brook 28, Smith 0, Labuschagne 1-3 (1)

14:52

Sonia Twigg

Labuschagne has been brought into the attack. It’s slow and almost gets up and surprises brook, it hit him high on the bat, but the next ball is tapped up to long on for a single.

Duckett has gone! One has just died off the pitch and Duckett has almost given Labuschagne catching practice! It was a slow delivery that just got stuck in the surface, the opener tried to work it to mid on, but just scooped it straight into the hands of the bowler.

It was an inspired bowling change from Mitchell Marsh, Brook and Duckett had looked so comfortable at the crease.

England 211-2 (30) Duckett 94, Brook 27, Green 0-25 (4)

14:46

Sonia Twigg

Another change of bowling with Green on to replace Short, Duckett pulls the first one away to the boundary but there’s a fielder on the rope.

Another pull, that time Brook, but it’s the same outcome. Duckett is just creeping towards his century, but the boundary comes off the Yorkshireman’s bat, pulled well in front of square.

England 2024-2 (31) Duckett 92, Brook 22, Zampa 1-41 (7)

14:41

Sonia Twigg

Zampa has bowled full and straight to Duckett, who just works him into the leg side, he has played the sweep shot a lot to the spinner, and always leaves himself exposed, but he doesn’t miss very often.

England 201-2 (30) Duckett 90, Brook 21, Short 0-45 (6)

14:38

Sonia Twigg

As soon as Short comes back on to bowl, Duckett has reverse-swept him for four, there was just the one man behind backward point and he has been well-beaten.

Duckett follows it up with a single into the leg side to move into the nineties. Brook goes after him again! Driving the ball into the crowd for his second six.

A two off the final ball of the over brings up the 200 for England.

England 188-2 (29) Duckett 85, Brook 13, Zampa 1-38 (6)

14:35

Sonia Twigg

Duckett goes for a risky paddle shot, it skews away and they race through for a single.

England are still struggling to score against Zampa, but it won’t matter if they can pick up the runs elsewhere.

185-2 (28) Duckett 83, Brook 12, Short 0-32 (5)

14:31

Sonia Twigg

Brook and Duckett just pushing the ball into gaps against Short. There are still more than 20 overs left in this innings.

Australia go half up as Short gets the ball to turn past the outside edge of Brook’s bat, the wicketkeeper whips the bails off, but he was unmoved and there was no outside edge. A good piece of bowling though.

Brook goes big and over the top on the offside, targeting the short boundary and he has a six into the crowd.

England 175-2 (27) Duckett 81, Brook 4, Zampa 1-35 (5)

14:28

Sonia Twigg

Duckett is lucky! He hit one into his own boot and it ballooned up into the air but it dropped in front of him rather than behind and out of reach of the wicketkeeper.

The England duo are just tapping the ball around now and trying to rotate the strike, Zampa is not usually someone who gives away runs.

England 172-2 (26) Duckett 80, Brook 2, Short 0-22 (4)

14:25

Sonia Twigg

What can Harry Brook do?

After their start England will be targeting a big score at the small ground of Trent Bridge, but Duckett is just struggling to find the gaps in the field and this might be time for a small rebuild.

Wicket! Jacks 62 (56) b Zampa c Smith; England 168-2

14:21

Lawrence Ostlere

Zampa is back into the attack and he immediately gets a reward, as Jacks tries to shift his feet and play through the off side – it’s awkward and he finds Steve Smith in the covers for an easy catch.

England 165-1 (24) Jacks 62, Duckett 75, Short 0-20 (3)

14:18

Lawrence Ostlere

Jacks drives down the ground and Abbott gets around to cut off the boundary, but lets the ball go through to the rope, much to Short’s disgust.

England 157-1 (23) Jacks 57, Duckett 73, Hardie 0-27 (6)

14:14

Lawrence Ostlere

Another boundary by Jacks, though this one is a little fortunate as he gets a thick edge on a loose thrash. England finish the over with a couple more singles.

England 151-1 (22) Jacks 52, Duckett 72, Abbott 0-50 (5)

14:09

Lawrence Ostlere

And there’s Will Jacks’ half century, pulling in front of square with authority!

Duckett finishes the over with another four, pulled through mid-wicket, to bring up the 100 partnership from only 86 balls. England are in control right now.

Ben Duckett brings up 50

England 127-1 (20) Jacks 44, Duckett 56, Abbott 0-35 (4)

14:02

Lawrence Ostlere

Abbott returns tot the attack, and he’s very frustrated as ball slides down leg off Duckett’s pads and reaches the boundary.

England 110-1 (18) Jacks 37, Duckett 51, Zampa 0-18 (3)

14:00

Lawrence Ostlere

Jack and Duckett rotate the strike well without any boundaries, adding 10 more, and with it that’s Duckett’s half century. They look very settled, these two.

England 100-1 (17) Jacks 32, Duckett 46, Zampa 0-18 (2)

13:58

Lawrence Ostlere

England and Duckett in particular go on the attack against Zampa once more, and add one four and a flurry of singles to the score.

England 91-1 (16) Jacks 29, Duckett 40, Hardie 0-12 (4)

13:52

Lawrence Ostlere

Aaron Hardie resumes and it’s a tight over, going for just two runs.

England 89-1 (15) Jacks 28, Duckett 39, Zampa 0-9 (1)

13:44

Lawrence Ostlere

Adam Zampa comes into the attack, and on his second ball Will Jacks steps down the pitch and smashes back over his head for six! That’s a statement of intent against one of the game’s great white-ball spinners.

England 80-1 (14) Jacks 21, Duckett 37, Green 0-7 (2)

13:35

Lawrence Ostlere

A couple of wides thrown in by Green, whose radar appears to have gone haywire. England will take those extras.

England 72-1 (12) Jacks 19, Duckett 33, Short 0-12 (2)

13:24

Lawrence Ostlere

Six! Jacks cuts loose, smashing over cover all the way over the rope for six. England add 10 more to their tally.

England 62-1 (11) Jacks 10, Duckett 32, Green 0-3 (1)

13:21

Lawrence Ostlere

Cam Green backs up Short with an economical over of his own, going for three. Australia have stalled the momentum a little.

England 59-1 (10) Jacks 8, Duckett 31, Short 0-2 (1)

13:16

Lawrence Ostlere

A nice, tight start from Matthew Short in his first over, giving up only a couple of singles, and that concludes the powerplay. England going along nicely so far.

England 57-1 (8) Jacks 7, Duckett 30, Abbott 0-32 (3)

13:12

Lawrence Ostlere

Abbott is back into the attack, facing England’s new batter, Will Jacks. He’s told off for going wide on his crease and then bowls a no ball that bounces way over Jacks’ head. With the next ball, Jacks stands and delivers with a smack down the ground for four.

Wicket! Salt 17 (24), b Dwarshuis 1-15

13:06

Lawrence Ostlere

Phil Salt tries to give himself room to slap through the off side but gets himself in a tangle and the ball skids through to hit the stumps. Finally, Australia have a breakthrough.

England 46-0 (6) Salt 16, Duckett 29, Abbott 0-24 (2)

13:02

Lawrence Ostlere

Excellent from Duckett, who begins Abbott’s latest over with back-to-back boundaries. He sees off a couple of dot ball and then there’s more, as he steps down the wicket and slashes across the line to mid-wicket for a four, and hits a near carbon-copy boundary from the back foot a moment later.

Four fours in the over. Ruthless.

England 30-0 (6) Salt 16, Duckett 13, Dwarshuis 0-15 (3)

12:55

Sonia Twigg

England start the next Dwarshuis over in watchful fashion, Duckett just defending the ball to the field, and waiting for a bit of width which comes in the next delivery which he plays comfortably for a single.

Salt takes over where Duckett left off and just defends the ball.

The next one is too straight and Salt tucks it away for a single towards backwards square. Salt goes after one, it’s a big inside edge and skews awkwardly behind him, but England have the boundary.

England 23-0 (5) Salt 10, Duckett 12, Abbott 0-8 (1)

12:50

Sonia Twigg

Time for a bowling change and Sean Abbott comes into the attack after just the two overs from Hardie.

His first delivery is played back to him by Duckett, but the next one is a wide and England won’t mind where the runs come from.

A short wide one is punched away by Duckett to bring up his first boundary of the innings. It was a well-timed shot just waiting for it and pushed through the gap.

And the final ball of the over is skewed away towards the boundary, he only had one hand on it and it saves the four.

England 15-0 (4) Salt 10, Duckett 5, Dwarshuis 0-8 (2)

12:46

Sonia Twigg

The ball skews off the inside edge of Salt’s bat and almost goes to the boundary, that is Trent Bridge and could be a sign that this will be a high-scoring game.

The next ball however he finds Labuschagne. There has just been the first sign of Archer, under a big duvet-like coat on the balcony, as he prepares for his first ODI for a year and a half.

England are taking their time so far, dealing in singles rather than boundaries, but there is a very long way to go in this match.

Another one off the outside edge, this time Duckett picks up a single to end the over.

England 11-0 (3) Salt 7, Duckett 4, Hardie 0-7 (2)

12:42

Sonia Twigg

Hardie is keeping things tight and halfway through the over Duckett still has just one run to his name.

But he manages to add a couple with a push into the gap on the off side between point and cover.

Duckett just knocking the ball around.
