The prospect of reopening Pantai Lido as a thriving tourist destination in Johor Bahru comes with the proposal to introduce essential public amenities and attractions. This strategic move would not only reinvigorate the area's appeal but also foster a renewed sense of community engagement.
Mohammad Salezan Mohd Salleh, Secretary of the Johor Bahru Petty Traders and Small Business Owners Association, reminisced about Pantai Lido's history as a recreational hub over a decade ago before its temporary closure.
Salezan expressed, "Our aspiration is to revive this beach into a space where families and friends can recreate cherished memories as they once did. In a city marked by towering structures, the scarcity of communal spaces necessitates such initiatives."
However, amid the excitement of rejuvenation, Salezan emphasized the importance of environmental stewardship. He noted, "Before we introduce any amenities, it's crucial that visitors understand the significance of maintaining the beach's cleanliness. A harmonious coexistence between nature and development is paramount."
A noteworthy development on a separate front is the relocation of the Bazaar Karat by the Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB). Acknowledging the limitations of its current location on Jalan Segget, which can no longer adequately accommodate around 400 traders, Salezan revealed, "In pursuit of positioning Johor Bahru as an international city, the city council has undertaken the decision to move us to a more spacious locale."
The Johor Tourist Guides Association, led by Chairman Jimmy Leong, has proposed an innovative solution to ease congestion within the city – transforming Pantai Lido into a parking space. Leong suggested, "To address Johor Bahru's parking scarcity, a combination of increased parking availability and an expanded shuttle service could significantly enhance urban mobility. Presently, Danga Bay provides a glimpse of this potential, but extending it to other areas could be transformative."

Highlighting the economic potential of Pantai Lido's reopening, Leong continued, "After a prolonged closure, it's a prudent step to leverage the beach's allure to generate income for the local community. The timing is opportune."
Mayor Datuk Noorazam Osman of Johor Bahru resonated with the sentiments of progress and public welfare. The decision to reopen Pantai Lido aligns seamlessly with the state government's visionary initiative, Johor Bersih, led by Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi. Noorazam affirmed, "Our aspiration is to cultivate a city that embodies convenience, cleanliness, and sustainability. This endeavor mandates the active participation of every stakeholder."
In anticipation of the beach's reopening, notable efforts have already been initiated. Notably, the dismantling of hoardings that previously obscured the breathtaking Straits of Johor views is in progress. Mayor Noorazam emphasized, "This small yet significant change is a testament to our commitment to an enhanced visitor experience."
Additionally, the MBJB is actively encouraging creative input from developers regarding potential recreational offerings at the beach. Noorazam explained, "We're exploring short-term projects that could serve as tourist attractions without compromising the beach's environmental integrity."
Furthermore, the city council is engaging in discussions with a developer regarding the transformation of a portion of Pantai Lido into temporary parking bays. This endeavor, planned with a connecting bridge, pedestrian crossing, and ample lighting, promises to facilitate seamless beach access while minimizing congestion.
In conclusion, Pantai Lido's revival as a bustling tourist destination is accompanied by meticulous planning to ensure its success. Through collaborative efforts and innovative infrastructure, Johor Bahru's vision for a harmonious blend of tourism, community engagement, and sustainable development is well on its way to realization.
