On 29 Mar 2023, Sinar Daily reported that Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor claimed that he was prevented from attending federal government events. In response, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil emphasized on the need to cooperate for the sake of the people. He said, “…enough of the politics, let us serve for the people.”
Then, in the Dewan Rakyat, while lawmakers were debating on amendments to the Penal Code to criminalise stalking, a member of parliament voiced his concern of our lower house being a potential target of spies seeking to uncover information on the nation. Then we have various kinds of excuses, statements made which I feel is a misuse of parliament time.
What do I expect when parliament is in session? When it comes to polling day, I expect all fellow citizens to exercise their right and vote for the government of their choice. When a government has been formed, I expect to see our elected representatives, including the opposition front, working hard to solve problems and coming up with good, fresh ideas on how to move this nation forward and be a competitive force, not only in Asia but also internationally. I expect the opposition to act in a matured manner, respect the choice of the rakyat, cooperate and act as a positive check and balance to all the important issues that affect our nation. I expect a period of peace and stability so that the nation can truly move on. So, for this period of five years, let us all be fair and give the present government a chance to do what she can to improve the nation. As the rakyat, let us be rational, alert and watchful so that each of us can have our own report cards of all our elected representatives. Then, come the next General Election, we will make wise choices. After all, as the rakyat, all our parliamentarians’ and civil servants’ pay come from the taxes we have paid through all our hard work!
I believe true Malaysians who love this beautiful nation will also echo Fahmi Fadzil’s call: Enough of politics, let us serve. Whoever you are, wherever you are, you can choose to be a positive impact on this nation. Let us all choose to be a blessing to Malaysia through our words and deeds.
