Lately, allegations against PN-PAS from UMNO and others that the coalition gave bribes to voters are getting more vociferous.

The latest to join in the chorus is Tun M himself who alleged that the 15th General Election (GE15) is the most corrupt election in the country and that every candidate who won gave bribes to voters openly.

According to Tun Mahathir many people witnessed the bribes when they were handed over just before the voters cast their ballots. He said no attempts were made to hide and no actions were taken against the perpetrators. He claimed that the authorities have seen the acts.

In the midst of these allegations, while indirectly referring to Tun M's allegations, Deputy PM Fadillah Yusof called upon those parties who claim that GE15 is the most corrupt election in the country’s history, suggesting them to take the matter to court. He added that anyone could make claims without evidence being presented, but the court would be the most appropriate place to determine whether the allegations were true because it demands the truth and meted out appropriate punishment to the guilty party.

We are with Fadillah on this issue. The public is tired of listening to these wild allegations being repeated over and over again on the media daily. We are sure these would continue until the next state elections as propaganda for the forthcoming state elections.

You either take legal action or stop making these unsubstantiated claims which appeared like propaganda materials used to discredit opponents in preparation for the forthcoming state elections adding to further confusion.

However, Terengganu UMNO that alleged PN coalition bribed voters in Marang, Kuala Terengganu and Kemaman parliamentary constituencies using the state government’s cash handouts is the only party that has so far filed petitions to nullify the GE15 results in the three seats, citing allegations of vote buying.

In sum, those who have evidence about the alleged bribery or corruption ought to do likewise rather than making loud public allegations of these malpractice amongst PN-PAS in the opposition.
