SANDAKAN: The Domestic Trade and Costs of Living Ministry (KPDN) said the supply of essential goods, particularly sugar and cooking oil, in Sandakan is sufficient ahead of the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

Sandakan KPDN District Chief Enforcement Officer Azdy Zukkry John confirmed this after conducting inspections at several major wholesalers in Sandakan, including key supermarkets frequented by consumers.

“The inspection found that the current stock of sugar at five major wholesalers in Sandakan stands at 154.848 metric tonnes.

“An additional 224 metric tonnes of sugar are expected to arrive in Sandakan on March 15,” he said.

Together with his enforcement team, Azdy also inspected one of the main supermarkets in Sandakan and confirmed that controlled items, such as cooking oil, are readily available, with no signs of panic buying.

He acknowledged that there has been an increase in purchases of these two essential goods throughout the month of Ramadan.

As such, he advised consumers to refrain from bulk and panic buying in order to ensure fair access for other consumers.

He also encouraged the public to lodge complaints or make enquiries by contacting KPDN Sandakan via e-aduan.kpdn.gov.my, 089668107 (KPDN Sandakan), or WhatsApp: https://wa.me/+6198488000 (Consumer Complaints).
