Earlier today, we reported that popular Malaysian preacher Firdaus Wong called out Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) for allegedly closing down the Multiracial Reverted Muslims (MRM) Street Dakwah stall in Bukit Bintang, despite it having operated there for 14 years.

Now, the city council is addressing the situation.

DBKL has issued a statement

Taking to its official Facebook page, DBKL released a statement clarifying that a violation regarding the installation of tents on pedestrian walkways had occurred.

This prompted DBKL officers to visit the site to seek an explanation from MRM. However, the MRM spokesperson reportedly failed to appear.

“After waiting for more than 30 minutes, no representative of the party concerned arrived to provide assistance or explanations to the DBKL officers,” the statement read.

“In this regard, DBKL took action to dismantle the tents and move related materials to storage, in accordance with the provisions of the law and current by-laws. Since the enforcement action was taken, the responsible party has yet to come forward to provide an explanation.”

All activities must be in accordance with the law

The city council went on to emphasise that it has never prohibited any ‘Dakwah’ activities. However, it insisted that all such events must comply with the processes and procedures established by local authorities.

“This enforcement is essential to ensure public safety, urban order, and the smooth usage of public roads for the common interest of the city’s residents,” it added.

Moving forward, the city council intends to hold a meeting with MRM to engage in a constructive discussion, aiming for a long-term solution to ensure such incidents do not recur.
