One of the eminent panelists at the Student Dialogue organized by MyAeroSatu, is Prof Dato' Haji Ahmad Zahir Haji Mokhtar of UniKL-MIAT (Retired), who talked about the entrepreneurial frontiers for technological application in aviation. He impressed upon the young students of aviation programs from various universities present that “Entrepreneurial action is essential for navigating complex regulatory, and high-cost environment of aviation, in ensuring sustainability relevance. It fuels growth through startups and niche market identification for specialized technology adaption & Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) services for specific aircraft types or remote regions which larger, established companies might overlook." With nearly 30 years experience in the aviation industry, Dato' Zahir chose to venture into education specifically to serve as a Professor of Practice with UniKL-MIAT, said “Entrepreneurs play a key role in accelerating innovation, specially in areas like sustainable aviation fuels, autonomous flight and electric aircraft technologies, bringing fresh solution to traditional industry challenges. Entrepreneurial initiatives are crucial for implementing eco-innovation, and reducing the industry's negative environmental impact, fostering a greener economy. Entrepreneurs help industry adapt to rapid changes, such as the increased demand for private aviation & digital transformation, improve airport facilities, services, and operational efficiencies benefitting overall economy.”

Dato' Zahir shared future flightpath with the students that “Near Term (Next 5 Years): Integration of hybrid-electric military/civil (VTOLs); Widespread scaling of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF); Prototype testing of highly efficient Blended Wing Body designs. Mid Term (Next 10-15 Years): Certification of AI-piloted autonomous heavy cargo aircraft; Airspace integration of autonomous systems operating alongside crewed flights. Long Term (15+ Years): Zero-emission hydrogen fleets; Commercial deployment of quiet supersonic travel; Fully established commercial lunar logistics systems and networks.”
I realized as global demand for air travel continues to swell, it places immense on infrastructure and new business models, necessitating faster business turnaround. The massive retirement of veteran engineers & technicians is demanding multi-level investments in training to bridge a technical skills gap.
