The State undertook significant efforts in preserving biodiversity and sustainable resource management.
Key to these efforts was the Bukit Piton Forest Reserve within the Ulu Segama-Malua landscape, covering 242,884 hectares.
This reserve, adjoining the Danum Valley Conservation Area and Deramakot Forest Reserve, is crucial for the conservation of about 3,400 Orangutans.
