Epson Lifestudio Grand Plus EH-LS970B: Ultra short-throw 4K projector with Bose audio

Epson has launched the Lifestudio Grand Plus EH-LS970B in Malaysia, an ultra-short-throw projector that can produce an image of up to 150 inches while sitting just inches from the wall.

The EH-LS970B uses Epson’s 3LCD laser projection system and supports an on-screen 4K resolution with 8.3 million pixels. It offers up to 4,000 lumens of colour and white brightness, along with a contrast ratio of more than 5,000,000:1.

With a 0.16 ultra-short-throw ratio, the projector can produce a 120-inch display from around 17.3cm away from the screen. The display size can be adjusted between 80 and 150 inches, making it suitable for living rooms where a conventional projector or large TV may not be practical.

The projector also features an AI-powered TV chip that analyses content in real time and adjusts picture quality based on the scene. Epson says its AI Super Resolution and AI Picture Quality features are designed to improve sharpness, detail, colour and contrast, while Dynamic Colour Booster, Local Contrast and De-contour Processing features are used to further refine the image.

As for its audio setup, the EH-LS970B packs a built-in 20W 2.1-channel Sound by Bose speaker system. It also supports Bluetooth Speaker Mode, allowing it to be used as a standalone Bluetooth speaker when the projector is not being used for video.

The EH-LS970B runs Google TV too, providing easy access to streaming services including Netflix, Disney+ and YouTube. There’s also support for Google Cast and voice control. Epson’s Setting Assistant app meanwhile can be used to simplify installation by automatically correcting image distortion and alignment based on a photo taken with a smartphone.

The projector uses a laser light source rated for up to 20,000 hours, which Epson claims will offer over 10 years of use based on five hours of daily viewing without requiring light-source replacement or maintenance during that period.

While Epson did say that the Lifestudio Grand Plus EH-LS970B is available in Malaysia, they didn’t state pricing details for it just yet. Nevertheless, we’ve already seen it on sale from retailers priced at RM18,388.
