Women and equalities minister Bridget Phillipson has said it is "time to move forward" following the Supreme Court's ruling last week that women's sex-based rights under the Equality Act concern "biological sex" and does not include trans women.

The ruling sparked protests attended by tens of thousands of people on Saturday, who said it was a 'betrayal' of the trans community.

Welcoming the "certainty" brought by the judgment, Phillipson said: "This is a government that will support the rights of women and trans people, now and always.

"Dignity and respect for all, now and always."
