THE Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has approved BKS Green Energy Corp.’s construction of point-to-point transmission facilities to connect its solar project to the national grid.
The regulator said Friday that it had authorized BKS to build and own transmission facilities to connect the 33.831-megawatt peak Limbauan Solar Power Plant-Phase 2 in San Pablo, Isabela to the national grid via the Tuguegarao–Cabagan 69-kilovolt (kV) transmission line of the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines.
BKS Green Energy is a business unit of Rizal Green Energy Corp., which in turn is a joint venture between Yuchengco-led PetroGreen Energy Corp. and Japan’s Taisei Corp. PetroGreen Energy is the renewable energy arm of listed firm PetroEnergy Resources Corp.
The project’s transmission facilities consist of a 30/32 megavolt-ampere, 13.2/69 kV take-off substation, including protection and telecommunications equipment, along with a 4.4-kilometer single-circuit 69-kV transmission line. The facilities have an estimated total cost of P260.66 million.
The regulator found that the facilities had been completed on July 27, 2025, prior to obtaining ERC approval.
It reminded all generation companies and grid users intending to undertake similar projects to first obtain prior authority before proceeding with development and construction.
This is to ensure coordinated system planning and to maintain the integrity and security of the entire electricity grid while preventing the unchecked increase of unauthorized facilities that may compromise grid reliability.
PetroEnergy shares closed unchanged on Friday at P4.76 per share.
